SOUND PRACTICE, COMPOSITION, SONG

Becoming requires sacrifice; sacrifice is a wound. When a caterpillar undergoes metamorphosis it retreats from the world, into a cocoon, to shield itself from all but the present moment of its experience. Then, its entire body disintegrates—painfully—so that it may gain the capacity to re-form into something, something it likely does not yet understand. To release. To become. I think of my music as within this cocoon; as within a dialogue—a site of presence, of absence, of both safety and pain, of stillness and motion, of slowness and intensity, of insularity, intimacy, and becoming.
